For tenants

If you rent and you've found bed bugs

Bed bugs say nothing about how clean a home is. They travel on luggage, furniture and between apartments. Here is what helps tonight.

  • 01

Tell the super or management in writing

A text or an email works. Keep a copy with the date on it.

  • 02

    Leave things where they are

Don't carry a mattress or furniture into the hall, a neighbor's apartment or the curb. That is how bugs move.

  • 03

    Wash and dry, then bag

Bedding and clothes go through a hot dryer, then into sealed clean bags.

  • 04

Skip the store-bought sprays and foggers

They can push bugs into the next apartment without reaching the cracks where they live.

  • 05

    Keep one to show us

Tape it to an index card, or text us a photo. It helps us tell bed bugs from look-alikes.

  • 06

Ask for the inspection to cover the walls you share

A treatment that stops at your door can leave the source next door.

Your part of the visit

What we'll ask you to do

A treatment day goes faster when the unit is ready. The prep sheet has the whole list, in English and Spanish.

  • Laundry washed, dried hot and bagged

  • Floors clear and furniture off the walls

  • Heat-sensitive things taken out

  • A place to be for the day, with pets and plants

Brownstone row houses and stoops on a tree-lined street after rain

Questions tenants ask first

Who pays, the tenant or the landlord?

That depends on your lease and the city's housing rules, and we can't give legal advice. We bill whoever signs the work order. A tenant organization or a lawyer can tell you where you stand.

Will my neighbors know?

A building notice says pest control and the date, nothing more. Our reports use unit numbers, not names.

Is it safe for kids and pets?

Heat is the main tool, and people, pets and plants stay out of the unit for the whole treatment day. Where a unit also needs a targeted treatment, a licensed applicator follows the product label and tells you where to keep clear and for how long. Ask us for the product list before the visit.

Do I need to be home?

Someone has to let us in to start and be reachable to let us finish, but most people leave for the day. People, pets and plants should stay out until we say the unit has cooled.

Not sure it's bed bugs?

Text a photo of what you found. A person looks at it and tells you what to do next.
